Dukes County Sheriff’s Office Implements Disease Prevention Measures
On March 10, 2020, Charles D. Baker, Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, pursuant to the powers provided by Chapter 639 of the Acts of 1950 and Section 2A of Chapter 17 of the General Laws, issued a proclamation that there now exists in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts a STATE OF EMERGENCY, due to the recent COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak.
In light of this development, the Dukes County Jail and House of Correction has suspended all “Contact” visits to inmates in the facility located at 149 Main Street in Edgartown until further notice. Though “Non-Contact” visits to individuals in custody have not been suspended at this time, the Office does ask that anyone who is experiencing flu-like symptoms please refrain from visiting the facility at this time. This decision has been made in order to protect the individuals who are in custody of the Dukes County Sheriff and to maintain custody, care and control. The Dukes County Sheriff’s Office continues to monitor the situation diligently, and will provide any updates to the Office’s response via Press Release, which may be viewed on our website at www.dukescountysheriff.com/community-health.
